Special PS4 Bundle for Star Wars: Battlefront

Star Wars: Battlefront is big. Indeed, the game is one of the most hotly anticipated titles of the fall in the whole of gaming and not just within the Star Wars community, which has followed the evolution of the project for more than a year now. With the release date drawing near, it seems like everyone is eager to jump on the Battlefront bandwagon, and yes, that includes the maker of the PS4, Sony too. The game will be honored through a special PS4 bundle, which includes tons of must-have goodies not only for fans of the game but for those of the entire Star Wars universe and canon. The Bundle is centered around a PS4 console sporting a Darth Vader-themed design. Included in the bundle is a Deluxe edition of the game (the bundle launches together with the game itself on November 14), as well as a number of…

Electronic Arts Says The Days Of Inferior Movie Tie-In Games Are Over

The new upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront is expected to be one of the highest selling games of the year and the fact that the new Star Wars movie is being released a month after the game helps its chances even more. While it’s likely that the franchises corporation planned the release strategically, Electronic Arts COO, Peter Moore, states that the games does not need any assistance from circumstance. The days of several average movie tie-in games must go along with big cinematic releases are gone, according to a recent interview that Moore told MCV.  “That’s not what we do anymore,” says Moore. “We are a superior medium. We can tell stories better than any direct movie, which is linear with passive engagement from the viewer. We take great pride in the fact that you are playing your Star Wars fantasy. When I got in this industry, yeah, we were a…

EA skipped a Battlefront campaign because “very few” would play it

The new Star Wars: Battlefront will feature AI-controlled enemies for single player and co-op modes such as Survival, however there will not be a proper single-player campaign. The reasoning for this is quite simple, after Electronic Arts Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore told Gamespot: Hardly anyone would bother playing it anyway and skip the games. Moore stated that large decisions like this are typically made years in advance before the games release, and sometimes this can lead to problems. “Between when a dev team starts work on a game, and when it finishes, the world becomes a different place. I remember when we started work on Star Wars: The Old Republic; at the time, the model to go for was subscription,” he explained. “By the time we had the game ready, the model to go for wasn’t subscriptions. That’s why we had to stop the game, and rebuilt it as…

Star Wars: Battlefront Supremacy Revealed

The different multiplayer modes of Star Wars: Battlefront have many different types of experiences for players to enjoy. Everything from close-quarter battles to huge clashes on large maps, the Supremacy mode fits into the latter category. The Supremacy mode centers on five different control points that are scattered throughout the map. The player’s objective is to gain control of all five of the points, or most of them, before the 10 minutes are over. Every team will start the match controlling two of the points and then they will then have to fight for the last one in the center. After this has been done, the control points will need to be claimed in a certain order. Supremacy mode is a hardcore mode that is for players who know their way around the battlefront and for those who are craving mad action. Lead Level Designer Dennis Brannvall states that the…

Will Star Wars: Battlefront Have Depth that Players Want?

Here’s a discussion that is up for debate (and it likely won’t be the last time we see it being discussed): Does Star Wars: Battlefront have enough depth? Does it even have a chance to have the level of depth that some players seek? Are some people expecting too much from their multiplayer shooters these days? As gaming evolves, so does the technology in which we use to enjoy it. So also does the tastes and expectations of the people who play the games. We’ve heard many excited Alpha testers admit that they are a bit let down by the not-quite-final product of the game. Thus starts the debate between the “cynics” and the “fanboys” and with both sides going at one another, we often don’t hear real evidence about the game itself. So let’s take a look at the two main points of view and then we’d like to…

Star Wars Battlefront Preview- PCMag

PCMag recently teamed up with a PR representative for a single round of Survival Mode. When you play this mode in the full game it will have players going up against 15 waves of enemies on multiple different planets that include Hoth and Endor. However, during the PlayStation 4 demo they took on six waves on the beautiful deserts of Tatooine. The main object of the mode is to stay alive but sometimes they received secondary missions from Admiral Ackbar to find and defend the weapon cache pods. If one player dies but the other one lives and finishes the round, both Rebel soldiers can go to the next round. The new Star Wars: Battlefront is currently being developed by DICE and they are known for making the Battlefield series. Just like Battlefield, Star Wars: Battlefront is mainly a large multiplayer experience. The only single-player part of the game will…

Star Wars: Battlefront Impressions: Learning to Survive or Die Together

The new and upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront game is not only about Revel vs. Empire multiplayer battles, but much more. As it was revealed at this year’s E3, the game will have a cooperative multiplayer mode, this is where up to two players can work together to take on waves of incoming Stormtroopers. Shack News used their teamwork skills during the EA Summer Showcase in New York City. During the beginning of the match the players get to pick out their equipment, like your main weapon and a star card. The star card will tell you what your special equipment load out is. The first is used for defensive play and also includes an Ion Torpedo that closes in on enemy vehicles like the AT-ST. The second card is for offensive players and it has the Barrage grenade launcher and Ion Shot. The Ion Shot temporarily enhances your blaster, which…

Star Wars Battlefront 4 concept art from 2009

During the time that LucasArts terminated their contract with Free Radical Design, they were not just working on Star Wars: Battlefront III and Time Splitters 4, they were also working on the pre-production of a new Star Wars: Battlefront game. While the status of Star Wars: Battlefront III is not currently known, we don’t really expect any news about a fourth SW Battlefront game in the future.

Star Wars Battlefront: Walker Assault Mode Explained

Many fans of the new upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront game are confused and excited about the new Walker Assault mode. There is no an explanation of the mode thanks to BattlefrontUpdates on YouTube. Walker Assault is an atypical game mode and it has many phases that repeat themselves. The Rebels will be taking out uplinks in order to summon the Y-Wings, the Walkers then arrive in a certain location, the Y-Wings strike back at the Walkers, and then it starts all over again. This scenario plays out in different locations on the map three different times. Walker Assault does not end until the Walkers make it to their shield generator or the Rebels may take them out before they make it to their destination. During this mode, the Rebels are typically on the offensive and the Empire is on the defensive end. Every phase begins with one location and two…

Star Wars: Battlefront Alpha is Not the Full Game

There is a lot of talk about Star Wars: Battlefront and understandably so. With the date of launch easing ever so closer, fans will continue to look for every little piece of gameplay info they can find. In doing so, we want to take a moment to remind you that Alpha game footage and leaks can be deceiving. Alpha is not the full game. We repeat, Alpha is NOT the full game. For a variety of reasons, the Alpha is a barebones, stripped version of the real game. This makes it easier to show testers the basic gameplay and even graphics and more but without requiring them to download the full game and also without releasing the game in entirety during a testing phase. This is standard practice with video game launches and testing. So if you’re judging the full game based on the Alpha, keep this in mind. Folks…

If you already have it, win-win all around, right?

Rendered Luke vs Real Luke

Can a rendered Luke Skywalker look like the real thing? With the right team and equipment, it might even look more real than the actual Luke. Here are some screenshots to prove it. The rendered Luke is taken from Star Wars: Battlefront.  CG is more difficult than one might think and it usually requires an entire team of CG animators/artists to create what might seem like a simple project such as this. Often times you might have a person working on hair or facial effects while another is working on simulation effects to get the right completed look. There are researchers who will go through photographs and other tools of the person they are animating/rendering. Again, it’s not easy. But the results can be pretty fantastic. We can’t help but wonder what the actor thinks of this. It would be like seeing a younger you come to life. How cool…

Star Wars Battlefront: Star Cards Customization

Star Wars: Battlefront allows you to pick three Star Cards before each game. This video will show you how they work. Here’s a video from Westie: As you can see from the video, each card has its own unique ability or attack. They have personal shields, jetpacks and more. Players will get to use each card during the battle but it will have limited use or a recharge mechanic. The video shows it all in more detail but the system is somewhat like that in Titanfall’s burn cards. There are other games that have done similar concepts as well. All in all, it looks like a neat little addition to an FPS. What are your thoughts?

Jar Jar was Playable Hero in Cancelled BFIII: Free Radical Game Footage

This video shows leaked alpha gameplay of Star Wars: Battlefront III, which was to have been the third video game in the Star Wars: Battlefront series. Although LucasArts never announced the game, Free Radical Design developed the game from 2006 until 2008. The video gives you an example of how vast the battles would have been: all the Republic’s Cruisers you see on the video are piloted by full crews of real players. So one thing we learned from this footage is that Jar Jar would have been a playable hero. Would you play him? Would you play him just to run him into an untimely death? With all the hate on Jar Jar, it makes you wonder why they put him in the game. So I did some digging and it looks like this wasn’t necessarily THE JarJar. They just put the Gungan race in the Hunt mode. Personally,…

Star Wars Battlefront Devs Promise “Very Different” Single-Player Campaign

During a recent interview with The Guardian, Patrick Bach, DICE’s general manager was able to respond to many different questions from fans about the new and upcoming game Star Wars: Battlefront. Some of the answers didn’t exactly answer questions directly, but there is now a clearer picture on what Star Wars: Battlefront will actually look like. There is one major question that fans have been repeatedly asking and its why aren’t there any space battles in the new Battlefront game. Bach responded by saying: “There’s a lot of stuff we didn’t have time for, but we’ve picked the coolest moments, the ones that made most sense for multiple people playing together.” He also stated: “One design philosophy we always have is that we want different people to play together – we want flying vehicles with ground-based troops, we want to mix and match different types of gameplay on the same…

Star Wars Battlefront Closed Alpha Hoth Multiplayer 4K Ultra Settings Screens

One of the members of EA’s alpha test of Star Wars Battlefront has captured in-game screenshots of a multiplayer match played on Hoth. As we await the game for ourselves, leaved alpha info like these screenshots are a great way to get an idea for what we can expect from the beta and eventually the actual release of the game. Of course, we know that games can change (sometimes a lot) from their testing phase but it’s good to see shots like this and confirm that this game is indeed as beautiful as the trailer would indicate. Star Wars: Battlefront Delights, Raises Questions/Concern at E3

Like last year, DICE, the developer behind one of the most hotly anticipated gaming titles of the Star Wars Universe, Star Wars: Battlefront, made use of E3 to add further hype to the product it’s currently working on and to showcase the progress that’s been made. The work-in-progress footage that was shown this time around was captured off a PS4 and – although impressive- it gave rise to some controversy and concern among fans in regards to a number of performance issues and game features. Most of the “problems” which apparently surfaced in this year’s E3 showing could probably be attributed to the overly impressive footage released back in April, the one about the battle in Endor’s woods, which was in-engine footage indeed, but it wasn’t in-game footage and the differences are indeed quite significant. The Endor footage was set to a totally different tune: it was rendered at a…

There’s no Death Star map in Star Wars: Battlefront

For those of you who don’t know, there is no Death Star map in the upcoming new release, Star Wars: Battlefront. It has also been confirmed that Star Destroyers will be in the game, however you will not be able to take them down with a small blaster. “Yes you will see them within maps, but you can’t physically shoot them down.
